The Last Day of Twinship!

June 1964 - The last day my sister and I dressed alike. It marked a transition that helped us finally establish our individual selves. And it happened in June!

And I'm definitely the one on the left side of this photo!

Super Healing Posset- Recipe to help with Osteoporosis

A posset is an eggnog like drink used as a meal to promote healing, in this case provides calcium and other minerals for our bones -

1 quart low-fat dairy or nondairy milk
1-1/4 cups dry white alcohol free wine
1/4 cup natural sugar
1/4 lemon, juiced
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg

Heat milk in large saucepan to just below boiling. Add wine; remove from heat. Strain through cheesecloth-lined sieve. Add sugar and lemon, giner, and nutmeg. Stir until sugar dissolve. Cool. Serve warm.

Souper Douper Soup Recipe

Everything in this soup is good for you. I don't measure anything, I just throw it all in.

Olive Oil heated in a big pan
Chopped or sliced onions
Garlic (lots of it)
Polish Turkey Sausage sliced for flavor
Saute the above until tender
Then throw in -
Celery (usually six stalks or more)
Carrots (I buy the bags already cut up)
Potatoes (quartered)
Mushrooms (lots of them...great for the immune system)
Kale (lots of kale, or you can use other greens like escarole, chard, spinach, etc)
Lentils - Dr. Oz's super food - one of them
Can of diced tomatoes
2 cans of fat free low sodium chicken broth or just plain water
White beans
Kidney beans
Chick peas
And let it all simmer until veggies are tender.

I make a huge stock pot and give containers of this to my family and friends.

Several bowls of this throughout the day will keep the caloric intake low, and keep things moving, stabilize blood sugars, as well as provide the necessary fiber we all need to maintain a homeostatic condition.

We are what we eat!

Great summer salad

I came across this recipe and tried it. It was a hit! I'm making again today and bringing it over to my sister's. We'll probably have salmon, a sweet potato and this salad.

Spring greens or arugula
Blackberries
Blueberries
Raspberries
Kiwi
Strawberries
Feta cheese (crumbled)
Raspberry Vinaigrette dressing (Paul Newmann's is good - low fat of course)

Put it all together, and voila...extra good and extra healthy. You can throw in some sliced mushrooms as well.

This is really a great salad for the summer months!
